  1. Peter Lewis

I received my Bilingham Galbin from a close friend, who has been using Billingham equipment for many years.

Like the quality of Leica products, the initial purchase price seems very off putting, until you start to use them.

The user friendliness and sublime quality of their optics, almost justifies the cost of ownership, and the only real disappointment is the very substandard carrying case.

Take a pair of Leica Ultravids, simply spectacular quality, and if cared for, should last their owner a lifetime, but the carrying case, is such a disappointment, it’s nowhere near the quality one would hope for, considering the premium asking price.

I am not sure who manufactures the cases for Leica, but it looks like they have bought in a budget case, and just embroidered the Leica emblem onto the closing flap.

The case provided with a set of Leica Ultravids is not that bad, but quality wise, it’s not going to last the owners lifetime.

Step in, Billingham, and now we are talking quality, the quality a set of Leica binoculars deserves.
The only bit of plastic on the entire case, is the small toggle used to seal the waterproof membrane, everything else, is either premium leather, brass studs, and heavy duty canvas.

Even the £120 asking price seems about right, for the magnificent quality your getting.

The lanyard shoulder strap, with its solid brass ( Not Plastic) adjustment buckle, is a thing of beauty.

I was given my Galbin 8 case as a gift, but even if I had to purchase it with my own money, I would have been more than happy.

The case has a nice weight to it, and the interior is large enough to hold your binoculars and attached neck strap.

This is the carrying case your premium binoculars deserves, and will last the owner a lifetime, it’s manufactured to very high standards.
