Description

The 42 HD-PLUS models are almost as compact as the 32 mm models, allowing comfortable and ergonomic handling and a steady grip. Yet they provide light gathering capabilities close to the 50 mm model and thanks to new coating methods and special HT Glass from Schott they guarantee improved light transmission and therefore brighter images and an even wider spectrum of contrast. The Leica Ultravid 42 HD-Plus is available with a magnification factor of 7x, 8x or 10x.

A simply outstanding binocular, with a now very scarce 7×42 magnification.
When your spending such a large amount of money on a pair of premium binoculars, you have to be certain that the binoculars in question, have the right magnification and can be used whilst wearing gloves.

That may seem an obvious question, but the increased field of view, and ability to stay focussed on a bird in flight, is far far easier with a 7×42 magnification.

These Ultravids are lightweight, compared to most other binoculars of similar specification and value, and its only when you have used them for some considerable time, in all weathers, that you will realise they are almost flawless in their execution of watching wildlife.

I was tempted on purchasing some Swarovski ELs, but was able to borrow these Ultravids from a friend, before i went ahead and bought my own pair.

If your after possibly your one and only lifetime pair of binoculars, that provide a simply stellar performance, in all weather and temperatures, then make sure you examine the Ultravid range, their ergonomically perfect, and in extended use, almost a worthy investment.

This is a follow up, to my recent review of my 7×42 Ultravid HDs

As to be expected, these binoculars are fully waterproof, and even though i was not really prepared to put that to the test, just incase i got some moisture inside the Nitrogen filled magnesium housing, i got caught out, in some pretty horrid weather, whilst viewing a large flock of Choughs, on llandudno’s Great Orme.

When you have spent so much money on these binoculars, you take Leicas word for it, that these premium binoculars are fully waterproof, and until youare forced to put that to the test, your afraid to use them in such adverse weather conditions.

The rain droplets, just beaded off the AquaDura coated optics, and even though the binoculars, got a real soaking, they remained perfect.

One aspect of regular use, that i really find a joy is the very easy to use dipolar ring, that can be used, even when wearing heavy gloves.

The rubber eyecups, are very easy to remove, when they get dirty, and their perfect fit, just speaks volumes of Leicas attention to detail and quality..

Their size and weight, and overall feel, when held in your hands, i just can’t fault them., they just sit perfectly in your hands.

Even though my eyesight, due to age, is not what it was, compared to a few years ago, the image from these Ultravids still leaves me full of praise.

Im sure Swarovski binoculars can equal these Leicas, for performance, and image quality, so its personal preference, when making the expensive decision, of which binoculars to buy, but its the ergonomics and way these leicas feel, in regular use.

That’s why i went with these Ultravids, and another reason, was the 7×42 magnification.

It is ever so easy to stay focussed on a moving bird, with these wide field of view binoculars.

Build quality, general use, in ALL weather conditions, even pouring rain, and ease of maintenance,

Their manufactured to last the proud owner a lifetime, and i can’t ever envisage buying any other binocular ever again.

Take my word for it, these Ultravids are worth the money, its taken me quite a while to realise this, but it was money well spent.

Well, that’s how i felt, never really wanting to risk such an expensive pair of leicas, in weather, that cheaper optics, would have let in moisture.

The heavy rain droplets, just beaded off the AquaDura coated optics, and even though the binoculars, got a real soaking, they remained perfect, and are easy to keep clean.

One aspect of regular use, that i really find a joy is the very easy to use diopter ring, that can be used, even when wearing heavy gloves, very easy to use, and ever so precise in their adjustment.

Their size and weight, and overall feel, when held in your hands, you just can’t fault them., they just sit perfectly in your hands, their not large binoculars, or particularly heavy, and even average sized hands, envelope them in a nice way.

Even though my eyesight, due to age, is not what it was, compared to a few years ago, the image from these Ultravids still leaves me full of praise, crystal clarity, and so easy to remain focussed on moving objects, due to their wide field of view.

It is ever so easy to stay focussed on a moving bird, with these wide field of view binoculars, you only really discover that, after you have used them over a long period of time.

Great upgrade from my Ultravid 8×32. The increased field of vision is far greater than the specifications suggest – perhaps the increased eye relief has an effect, I’m not an expert. Very impressive in dusk – you can definitely see things invisible to the naked eye. We were so pleased with them that my wife also bought a pair. Love my visits to Cleyspy!
