Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is becoming increasingly popular. With it’s ability to pick out hard to see species, both day and night, it is easy to see the appeal of having one to hand to help with your wildlife watching.

Please find below some simple guidelines in order to help with making the right choice when purchasing your thermal imager.

When it comes to thermal imaging, improvements in the sensor quality is where your money goes. Better sensors can tell apart smaller differences in temperature. While all the thermals that we sell can do presence and absence, the better models can determine differences in the background, resulting in a sharper and more defined image.

The models we sell can be broadly separated into three main categories:

Between £539 and £1069

These models are great for general wildlife watching, especially mammals and larger birds. They have a little less range and definition than some, but their affordability makes them a great choice if you are just wanting to try thermal or have it in addition to your normal gear.

These models include the Nocpix Lumi and the first in the Pulsar Axion range.

Between £1200 and £1850

These models boast better definition and range than previous models. This results in a clearer picture, making locating and identifying what you are looking at easier. Being able to see the logs and rocks in the background can make the difference when trying to locate a camouflaged bird on a woodland floor, such as a Woodcock.

These models include the Pulsar Telos range (which offer a future proof upgrade policy unique to the range) and the Zeiss DTI 3.

Beyond £2000

The best available on the public market. These models offer impressive sensor quality and a larger pixel count on their displays, meaning clearer images at higher magnifications.

These models include the high-end Pulsar Telos models.
